""The USA's focus is China - with or without Trump"" - with Björn Jerdén

April 07, 2024

What explains the decline in interest in European security in significant circles in the United States? In this op-ed, Alexis von Sydow and I argue that the rivalry with China is a more significant factor compared to Trump, isolationism, or quasi-authoritarian currents. The trend of an increasing U.S. focus on China appears to be long-term, which indicates that we in Europe will need to take greater responsibility for our own security.
